Do It Anyway | #JOC BLOG

I recently had the good fortune of hearing Atlanta author/trainer, Doug Grady, speak at a business luncheon with his main theme:  Do It Anyway!  He gave credit to his dad for using this expression over and over again during his growing up years.  And while, at the time, the reminder became annoying as it would to any of us, the lessons Doug learned strengthened and empowered him to this day.  I thought a lot about this expression since then and can easily recall  numerous times  I chose not to do something simply because I didn’t feel like it.  Haven’t we all?  I just don’t feel like going to the gym.  I can’t get myself energized to go to the networking event.  I know I need to make those follow up calls.  I’ve been meaning to clean up my desk.  It’s so much easier to make excuses than it is to do something when our heart isn’t in it.  Well, if you had Doug’s dad as your guide, you’d be doing what you don’t feel like doing anyway.   Several years ago, I was engaged in a coaching program and the instructor had the following acronym which he expressed often:  MOM:  Mind Over Mattress!  I can tell you that getting up and out the door early (when you work from home)  to head to the gym is not easy!  I often say to myself: today is a MOM day!  And, off I go.  So, whether it’s Do It Anyway or MOM – you are always in choice as to how you show up, what you want to accomplish and how you feel about yourself.  Demonstrating  integrity is doing what you say you’re going to do – for yourself or others.  Create the habit of doing what you know will empower you to achieve greater results.   Start now.

January 30, 2013 Inspiration, Motivation

Do these statements sound familiar? “I meant to call you.”  /  “I intended to finish the project before the weekend.”  /  “I’m sorry I forgot your birthday.” I had every intention of being on time.”  / “I’ve been wanting to take a class, write a book or volunteer.” The truth is, we all mean well. We Go Where Our Vision Is

by
March 7, 2012 Motivation

While they seem the same, there is a huge difference between eyesight and vision. Eyesight is the ability to see what is; vision is the ability to see possibilities of what can be. There are many indicators in our world today the power of having vision. Today’s visions shape tomorrow’s opportunities. The strides we make

Choose Journey over Destination

by
February 15, 2012 Motivation

The following message is taped over my desk. It was given to me by a friend. “If you knew where the treasure is would you enjoy the journey as much, or, would you miss things along the way by focusing on the treasure?” It’s been my experience that regardless of the outcome I anticipate, sometimes

Halfway to Nowhere

by
January 4, 2012 Motivation

Are you going in the direction of your choice or is life choosing where you have to be? Are you “sort of” on your own path to fulfillment or are you paving the way for someone else? Are you giving life all you’ve got or are you only “half in the game”? I’ve lived in

Applaud Your Success

by
June 8, 2011 Motivation

Why do I rely so much on others giving me credit for what I accomplish instead of giving myself credit? There are times when I get so much done that by the end of the day I amaze myself. When that happens, I think, does anyone even notice all that I do? With this in

Those who know me would agree that I am perpetual “hugger”. I love to give and receive hugs. Ever since I was young, showing affection continues to be important  in my life. I was thinking about this having just returned from a friends wedding in DC. From the time I spent at the gate waiting
