Do It Anyway | #JOC BLOG

I recently had the good fortune of hearing Atlanta author/trainer, Doug Grady, speak at a business luncheon with his main theme:  Do It Anyway!  He gave credit to his dad for using this expression over and over again during his growing up years.  And while, at the time, the reminder became annoying as it would to any of us, the lessons Doug learned strengthened and empowered him to this day.  I thought a lot about this expression since then and can easily recall  numerous times  I chose not to do something simply because I didn’t feel like it.  Haven’t we all?  I just don’t feel like going to the gym.  I can’t get myself energized to go to the networking event.  I know I need to make those follow up calls.  I’ve been meaning to clean up my desk.  It’s so much easier to make excuses than it is to do something when our heart isn’t in it.  Well, if you had Doug’s dad as your guide, you’d be doing what you don’t feel like doing anyway.   Several years ago, I was engaged in a coaching program and the instructor had the following acronym which he expressed often:  MOM:  Mind Over Mattress!  I can tell you that getting up and out the door early (when you work from home)  to head to the gym is not easy!  I often say to myself: today is a MOM day!  And, off I go.  So, whether it’s Do It Anyway or MOM – you are always in choice as to how you show up, what you want to accomplish and how you feel about yourself.  Demonstrating  integrity is doing what you say you’re going to do – for yourself or others.  Create the habit of doing what you know will empower you to achieve greater results.   Start now.
