1st Quarter in Review

As I was reviewing the impending close of the first 3 months of 2014, I suddenly realized I found myself thinking about what I haven’t done instead of what I’ve accomplished!  As women in business, we must remember to focus on what we have accomplished. Then I wondered why I chose to let non-success overshadow all that did get done.  Is this true of you?

Women handle endless responsibilities.  Because many of us are on autopilot day after day, it’s easy to forget how far we’ve come and applaud our successes.  I’m just like you.  I think about the family letter writing and calls I said I would do this year.  I bemoan the few pounds I intended to shed.  I’ve got purchased books on my family room table I haven’t cracked open.  And there are business goals I now have to cram into 9 months instead of 12.  Why does it appear that time goes so quickly and progress occurs at a snail’s pace?  And, the following observation is definitely true.  The older you get, the faster the time.  Individuals my age think so.  Hours become days; weeks become months and suddenly a new season appears.  Life is moving faster and faster.  The daily demands don’t diminish.  And as long as we continually make ourselves available others will get our attention.  It’s time we take time for us.

Maybe we could all agree to focus on how terrific we are, agree to step up our efforts and to give ourselves credit for tasks well done.  Journaling is a great way to do this.  I have discovered journal writing offers a broad opportunity to ‘re-visit’ time.  Writing reflects my heart and is a vehicle that offers time for quiet introspection and a way to acknowledge myself, my blessings, my progress and my life.  By focusing on the day’s activities I remind myself of my value, what I am accomplishing and the lessons learned along the way.  It’s a private record of ideas, experiences and reflections on my life as I live it.  I get to capture moments, to express myself openly and honestly and see life differently when I journal my journey.

As we begin the next quarter of 2014, commit to reminding yourself how terrific you are, how giving you are and that there is only one you.  Do what you can, not only for others but for yourself as well.  Look back mid-year and smile at how far you’ve come, the progress you’ve made and that you committed to taking care of your most precious commodity – YOU.  Journal that you are enough.  You always were and you always will be.
