What Are You Setting Your Mind To?
Developing the entrepreneurial mindset is one of the best self growth programs in the world. Successful entrepreneurs tend to have what is referred to as a “growth mindset” as opposed to a “fixed mindset”. As the leading psychologist on the topic Carol Dweck puts it, “In a growth mindset, people believe their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work — brains and talent are just the starting point,” whereas people with a fixed mindset believe “their basic qualities, like intelligence are fixed.”
You have all heard the saying, “You can do anything if you set your mind to it.” For entrepreneurs, this adage couldn’t be truer. What are you setting your mind to? An entrepreneur who sets her mind to grow in leadership, productivity, and marketing is well on her way to developing the entrepreneurial mindset.
Peter Drucker famously stated that “management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” Great leaders possess dazzling social intelligence, a zest for change, and above all, vision that allows them to set their sights on the “things” that truly merit attention. Control is a mirage. The most effective leaders right now, men and women, are those who embrace traits once considered feminine: Empathy. Vulnerability. Humility. Inclusiveness. Generosity. Balance. Patience.
Productivity depends on several factors: motivation, talent, training, work environment, support from others, time management, luck… it’s almost too much to think about. Paul Meyer said it best, “Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.”
Marketing is the process of communicating the value of a product or service to customers, for the purpose of selling that product or service. Today’s marketing landscape consists of off-line and on-line strategies such as networking, speaking and writing. Regardless of personal preference of traditional methods or the latest newcomer – social media, it is critical to have a hybrid approach to reaching your audience.
So how do you set your mind on leadership, productivity, and marketing? Begin by asking yourself, your mastermind peers, or your coach where are you now and where do you want to go in each area. Draft a written development plan, implementation timeline, and seek accountability for your growth mindset.
